Way Beyond Bitter

Breitbart: Obama slammed for saying working class voters are 'bitter'
His rival Hillary Clinton jumped on his statement as condescending.

"It's being reported that my opponent said that the people of Pennsylvania who faced hard times are bitter," she said at a campaign event.

"Well, that's not my experience. As I travel around Pennsylvania, I meet people who are resilient, who are optimistic, who are positive, who are rolling up their sleeves.

"Pennsylvanians don't need a president who looks down on them."
Certainly this is a non-news item. Clinton is doing anything to create a twist, to cast doubt, to reinterpret. She's really stretching here, and its pretty unseemly.

In reality Obama does not go far enough in stating that working class voters are bitter. It is not only working class voters who are bitter it is also middle class voters, and I suspect many upper middle class voters as well.

Also not only are they (we) bitter, they (we) are in the grip of dismay, they (we) are aghast at the low and debased level that this administration has wrought. The latest non-revelation that Cheney is at the center of torture fails to surprise anyone.

I am also certain that most Republican voters feel the same way. Loyalty however is a critical and essential aspect of the Republican voter. They may not like getting screwed but they sure as hell don't want to be screwed by a Democrat, even if they don't get screwed by the Democrat. I'm sure there are clearer ways of articulating that last point.

I would also describe the mood of the working and middle class as weary and worn out. People are tired of the oppressive quality and mood that has prevailed for 7 long harsh ugly years.

Who could possibly suggest that McCain brings to the table a sense of hope. He brings a few things but hope, optimism, sorry. Obama should drive home the nail that McCain is running as Bush's third term. This is the mantra.
