Obama's Achilles Heel

Listening to National Public Radio today, I was taken by the number of stories regarding Reverend Wright.

I am seeing lots of stories on the web devoted to Wright and presumably they are all over TV.

For example from Reuters: Obama strongly denounces former pastor
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama denounced his former pastor in his strongest language to date on Tuesday, saying he was outraged by Rev. Jeremiah Wright's assertions about the U.S. government and race.

"His comments were not only divisive ... but I believe that they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate," Obama told reporters.

"Whatever relationship I had with Reverend Wright has changed as a consequence of this," Obama said.
The media, Republicans-neocons, and Clinton have found Obama's weak point, and they will hammer him on Wright.

Can you recall a time when a political candidate or politician seemed like they were in control, when they are playing defense.

This is the problem. Obama is now on the defense. He is forced to distance himself from Wright, but the problem with politicians is that the media won't let you become unstuck. Just the opposite. The attention and shrillness increases the glare of the camera and the worst instincts of the population.

The deer gets caught in the headlights, and America starts salivating. Nothing would please Obama's detractors more than to see his fall from grace.
