Medicaid Cuts

NYT: House Passes Bill Challenging Bush on Medicaid Cuts
The House voted Wednesday to block the Bush administration from cutting federal spending on Medicaid health care for the poor by $13 billion over the next five years.

Two-thirds of House Republicans joined every voting Democrat in the 349-to-62 vote to impose a one-year moratorium, through next March, on seven rules changes that the administration said were needed to curb waste and abuse in Medicaid...
Bush is of course self and party mandated to kill all entitlements, social spending. Its called draining the beast.

Some sobering news: Number of Uninsured Hits New High, Census Shows
47 million Americans had no health insurance in 2006, an increase of more than 2 million from the previous year.

So what's happening is that health insurance is becoming more expensive, less affordable. Employers are dropping coverage. And as a consequence, what we see out the other end is 2.2 million more Americans uninsured in the most recent year, a total of almost 9 million more Americans now uninsured since 2000.
