Pakistan Gets Anxious

According to this article there are two problems that are arising with Pakistan.

First the increase in military deaths in Afghanistan in the recent past is partly being attributed to Taliban fighters crossing from Pakistan into Afghanistan. Pakistan is not doing much to stop it.

The second problem is that the money that the US sends to Pakistan to fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda is not being used for that purpose. This doesn't seem all that unusual considering the"successes" such previous efforts have produced.

Obama approves of the US going into Pakistan on "actionable intelligence" on the Taliban. He also supports cooperation with Pakistan in this effort.

NYT: Unilateral Action by U.S. a Growing Fear in Pakistan
A spike in deaths of United States and NATO soldiers in Afghanistan in the last two months has been largely attributed by American officials to the flow of Pakistani Taliban into southern Afghanistan.

The Bush administration has given more than $10 billion in military aid to Pakistan since 9/11, when President Musharraf agreed to become an ally in the campaign against terrorism. Of that amount, $5.5 billion was specifically intended for counterinsurgency efforts by the Pakistani Army. A Congressional report this year said that Pakistan did not spend the $5.5 billion on counterinsurgency, and that the Bush administration had failed to insist that it do so.
