Another Shooting

We are reading this a little over two hours after the incident occurred.

The shooting happens in a Unitarian Church. I have several close friends that belong to the Unitarian Church and its shocking to see this happen. These people are generally very aware and very socially conscious and concerned. Not knowing the details, the shooter like all shooters, is mentally unstable.

CNN: Gunman critically wounds 7 in Tennessee church
Seven people were shot and critically wounded Sunday at a Unitarian church in Knoxville, Tennessee, authorities said.

Police have arrested a suspect in the attack, which occurred about 10 a.m. ET at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, said Capt. Brent Seymour, a Knoxville Fire Department spokesman.

First, I would like to express my condolences to all people who were physically harmed or emotionally harmed by this violent act.

Second, I would like to say that so often people who harm others in this way are portrayed as 'mentally unstable' and the incidents are portrayed as random acts of violence. I do not believe that is usually the case. I believe these are more than likely, perfectly rational people who are part of and accepted within communities where values of hatred and division are taught and promoted. They act within the realm of the values they are taught and believe; they see themselves as brave citizens of those communities, others in that community may see them as somewhat overzealous but not much more than that. If I were a Unitarian, I would consider this a likely act of provocation, if not an act of war against the Unitarian Universalist Church by a member of another religious community of thought and belief. Of course, that other community will publically deny all responsibility but if you were a fly on the wall in their church, I bet you would hear them continuing to preach hatred against UU and other selected groups. Maybe I am wrong as this is mostly speculation but my wife had attended a UU church in the south a couple years back and she was shocked by the way UU's are perceived by others in the south. Her co-workers and other people she met and knew saw her as a witch and a devil worshipper because she attended a UU Church.

We are seeing the guy's picture today all over the news. The girlfriend was talking about a violent nature, blowing brains out - her's and his'.

Also he was against the liberal views as the first comment accurately described. Very very sick, very twisted, I feel bad for those church people. Now they have to work through great trauma. Not fun..
