VP Under Wraps

Posting on who Obama picks for his VP feels like writing about what I might get for a birthday present. Its going to affect you, you try to influence the choice, what you end up getting is what you get. There's a lot of excitement, but that's all it is.

You can return a gift, we probably will still vote for Obama. This is where the metaphor falls apart.

In most respects, its a moot point. He picks who he picks. All we hope is that the choice is not so left field that it messes with his chances. I suspect that is not going to happen. His campaign seems to be very well choreographed.

Reuters: Obama meets on No. 2 pick: Kaine? Biden? Bayh?
With the clock ticking on his hunt for a running mate, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama spent nearly three hours on Monday meeting with his vice presidential search team and campaign advisers.

The Washington Post reported Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has had “very serious” talks about joining the ticket, according to sources close to Kaine. Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden and Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh are also being seriously vetted for the job, the Post said.

The Democratic convention opens on Aug. 25.

Richardson is my pick. LOL, I forgot Madeline Albright is foreign born so she's not in the running. I did a McPain. Senior moment..

Richardson was my original choice for president, when he dropped out I went for Edwards.

We will see, personally I'm all confused about the pick. One part thinks they must want a basic insider white guy like Biden, another part says a young dynamic up comer like Richardson, then another part says its got to be a established woman - Hillary.

One thing you can bet somebody is doing, is running the numbers on which pick helps in what demographics. They probably all help somewhere and with a certain constituency but someone is going to be the overall choice.

I agree. It won't be Hillary, Obama doesn't like Bill. I don't blame him. Bill Clinton is an attention hog among other things were all tired of talking about. It's time for the Clintoon's and BV$H's to fade away into history. The whole era led us to the fiasco were in today. For the most part Bill ruled like a Demo version of Eisenhower and BV$H 2 like Mussolini.

Bill Clinton is Hillary's albatross. She can't escape him. He doesn't seem to be able to keep it shut either. Bill is the wild card. I think you're final point is true. We need a change, ditch the past, hopefully he will.

It occurs to me that one part of this VP choices period that we are in right now, is so Obama can get some public praise time in for a group of people that have appeal to various constituencies. He only picks one person but he's able to get public approval from all parts of the country by keeping 5 to 10 names in the air and keeping the speculation humming. Its really a good political tactic. It also shows people that he has a wide range of thought. Its very smart.

O is smart. We need smart but we also need lucky now. Smart is half the game. BV$H was stupid but no matter he had much of the power and $$ behind him. Like Reagan he was a hand puppet for these "hidden" folks in the boardrooms and committees and think tanks that really run this country. O needs more then just smarts. At this juncture though smart is a good starting pt.
