Jobs Lost To China

The article goes on about free trade debates because of this harsh data - 2.3 million jobs lost as a result of trade with China.

Look let's get clear what this is all about. Its not a result of 'trade' with China. Its a result of American corporations moving their manufacturing operations to China to save on labor costs, and to circumvent regulations of all kinds. Companies move to China and American workers are out of a job. They move because the labor is cheaper in China. They move because they are dumping monstrously huge medical benefit costs for their employees as well. There's probably 3 dozen more reasons as well.

How could I forget, they move because of an administration that favors the elite owners and investors over the workers. So the path is greased.

When I see something with the made in China logo, I look it over. I immediately know that the quality is not what it used to be. I buy tools a lot and the difference between American made tools from a few years back, and the same brand tools now made in China, is huge, huge. But guess what - the prices are not much different.

Reuters: U.S.-China trade has cost 2.3 million U.S. jobs: report
The U.S. trade deficit with China cost 2.3 million American jobs between 2001 and 2007, the Economic Policy Institute said on Wednesday in a report likely to fuel debate about free trade ahead of November elections.

True. Our own sold us out for a few bucks. Patriots aren't they? The same people who wave the flag and drive around in the Silver Mercedes are the one's paying Chinese workers $1 a day and bribing their commie masters to keep wages and benefits forever low. Remember the Orwell book PIG FARM? It's come to pass.

There is a certain hypocrisy to it all.

The right wing used to love waving flags and talking about commies. Once they found out that the commies want to play ball, line up the cheap labor, end the regulations, the flags went away.

Fortunately the right found a new enemy. So they can keep the fear going, keep the war cranked up, intrude in your rights, make you the enemy if you don't tow the line.

It used to be you were a commie sympathizer now your working for Osama. Convenient isn't it.

It's all 1984 .. Were @ war with east asia right? What's so sad is how long these assholes got away with it.

We are in for some big challenges. Without some essential changes, I think the number of poor people grows, the divides get sharper. Health care has got to change, we need some industry, we need to reinvest in our country, otherwise there's just more erosion.

Everybody knows that there is plenty of work to do, the green energy revolution is huge. Where I live, almost all the houses are over 50 years old. They all need to be updated. The roads needs improving, transportation, schools, everything. There's plenty of work to do, we are not short on things that have to change, not short on work.

You can see where I live that the only areas that are still booming are where the extreme wealth is. The really rich are building bigger and bigger mansions and the Mercedes is becoming a Rolls Royce now. But, everywhere else the homes, schools, bridges, roads etc. are falling apart. The average person is screwed if he doesn't either work for a BIG Corp. with a good job or for some form of Gov't agency. I am one of the screwed now. I've been living off of my savings to some degree for the last 11 yrs. My only asset my house has appreciated but the taxes on it in NJ are also crushing me. I can't drive anymore because I can't afford the Ins. and the fuel. Hell, I can't really even afford a bike chain. My budget is so stretched that I wake up in a nervous sweat every day now at 5am. My wife works when her union has work in the Casinos down here but that is also a fading Industry. I'm scared. @ 60 Sande I've had 5 jobs in 3.5 yrs. None for more then 4 mos. My SS is 5 yrs away and for the 1st time in my life I'm thinking of suicide as a possibility. If I am I can only wonder how many millions of others are also?

First off, suicide is not a possibility. Absolutely do not. Seek out someone to talk this stuff out with, some kind of call line.

You have the house asset, that's a huge plus. You have a family, that's a huge plus. Your wife's working, that's a huge plus. Start counting the pluses which includes the most important and valuable thing of anything, your life. You have a lot of valuable assets beyond money. Plus you're an intelligent person, most people are not, unfortunately.

Don't get suckered into our crazy materialistic inadequacy stuff. I've had that and its bullshit. You simply don't know how the future can unfold.

We look at some of the harsher aspects of our society and its draining but its like lifting the rock and the bugs scamper. We are trying to put some light on the people that are beyond greedy and selfish beyond imagination. Be happy you are not one of those people.

All this stuff though is just one layer of our reality. It affects us to the degree we allow it to affect us.

Some of the most simplest ways of reducing stress and chilling out are absolutely free. When you wake up in a cold sweat, turn your attention to something simple like deep breathing to lift the burn of anxiety. You have the power to ride those demons and I know you know what I am talking about.

Ever life is always workable, we don't encounter anything that we can't work with. That is a fundamental truth.

It passes but the scary part is just having such a thought. I'm too much of a coward to ever actually kill myself. But, I understand circumstances were it becomes ok. Those poor bastards who jumped off the Trade Towers took their own lives or did they? I heard others actually condemn them for jumping! Can u imagine the chutzpah that took to judge that act. All I'm saying is we all have a right to decide the issue of life or death at any moment. That said I agree with you life is too precious to just decide too die because ur bank account is empty. But, life is also relative. Imagine how it must feel to be a BIG BIG BIG shot with billions one moment and zero the next! Would u survive such a fall? I've lost, been fired , quit, been laid off, & downsized through 5 real jobs these last 3 yrs and I'm taking a friggin beating. My shrink told me I'm already suffering from post traumatic shock syndrome. Yet, I get right back into the ring each time within weeks. ( I was an amateur kick boxer in the 80's.) But , thanks for the advice and the concern. Sometimes it's easier to bear our souls even in the darkest moments too strangers then those we live with or know.
