Documentary film on monks' walk to Trinity Site previewed

An advance screening of a documentary film depicting a 2005 walk by Japanese Buddhist monks in the United States, calling for nuclear disarmament, was held in Tokyo on Sunday.

The documentary is presented by U.S. actor Martin Sheen and narrated by Japanese actress Nanako Matsushima. It also shows a family member of sufferers of U.S. atomic bomb experiments speaking about her family's experience and a nuclear expert commenting on the threat of nuclear explosion as well as local Americans providing support for the monks on their journey.

‘‘I want to convey the message of peace from children to elderly people,’’ said Matt Taylor, producer and director of the film ‘‘Gate’’ and executive director of the San Francisco-based nongovernmental organization the Global Nuclear Disarmament Fund.
