Restoring Quiet

Scientists have developed a literal cloak of silence, a material that can absorb sound.

We really could use this in the city. I like the idea of using it in construction as soundproofing. The boom cars are so loud, they rattle objects off the tables while the plaster falls off the ceilings.

Scientists have shown off the blueprint for an "acoustic cloak", which could make objects impervious to sound waves.

The technology, outlined in the New Journal of Physics, could be used to build sound-proof homes, advanced concert halls or stealth warships.
