Global Warming - Alaskan Salmon

Recall the story from 2007 where jellyfish destroyed an Irish salmon farm.

BBC: Jellyfish attack destroys salmon
A jellyfish invasion has wiped out Northern Ireland's only salmon farm, killing more than 100,000 fish.
The jellyfish do not live in the traditionally cold waters off Northern Ireland. They lived in the Mediterranean. Global warming has changed the water temperatures and along with it, the jellyfish follow.

The rising water temperatures are now affecting the Alaskan salmon industry as well.

In this case the rising water temperatures are bringing along bacteria and parasites that are harmful to the salmon

LA Times: Alaska salmon may bear scars of global warming
Cold-temperature barriers are giving way, allowing parasites, bacteria and other disease-spreading organisms to move toward higher latitudes.

Fishermen and regulators who have cooperated to save species from overfishing and local environmental hazards have been caught unprepared to deal with forces beyond their control: how to manage a fishery for climate change.
