Supreme Decisions

The recent Supreme Court decisions regarding the right to possess handguns in the home for self-defense along with the decision to allow for Gitmo inmates to challenge their incarceration i.e. reactivating habeas corpus, continue to stir great controversy. Personally I oppose the former and support the latter - too many guns, too much violence, and a scary erosion of human rights and freedoms does not make for a happy world.

NYT: Important Supreme Court Decisions, 2007-2008
The court ruled 9 to 0 that participants in 401(k) retirement plans can sue to recover losses due to the mishandling of their individual accounts.

By a vote of 6 to 3, the court upheld Indiana’s voter identification law, which requires would-be voters to present current state or federal photo identification to cast a ballot.
