To Bail Or Not To Bail

The bailout is not popular with the American public. This is easy to understand. Look at the poll numbers, 30% approve of the idea. The majority of those approving are Republicans with some Democrats also approving.

It almost bad sportsmanship to point out that Bush is at sub dismal popularity levels. We reap what we sow.

Unfortunately there is one large ingredient missing from the crisis table - leadership.

Breitbart.com: Few in AP poll back Bush market rescue plan
Despite Bush's pleas that economic calamity looms unless Congress quickly enacts his proposal, just 30 percent back his package, according to an Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll conducted Thursday night. Another 45 percent oppose it while the rest say they don't know.

Bush, whose popularity has approached historic lows for many months, received dismal scores in the poll for his performance during the financial crisis. Just 23 percent said they approve of how he's done, including only 6 percent approving strongly.

Disaster fatigue coupled with a growing sense of hopelessness and frustration seems to permeate the air right now. I turn on the TV and all I see are either religious fanatics pitching their own version of reality , used car salesmen trying sell Gas guzzlers that nobody wants cause they already own 2 or Sect. Paulson demanding a 700 billion no questions asked bail out of his friends failed banks. No wonder people are exhausted emotionally. At the same time they see everything getting more expensive by the day like a tidal surge and this while pitchmen are selling them $35 tickets to a new Movie theatre chain for the wealthy complete with a gourmet restaurant and bar. ( drinks and food extra) Reality has now entered the realm of the twilight zone.(sigh)

The $35 movie is a new one on me. Not enough high rollers in my neck of the woods.

I think McCain was trying for that disaster fatigue power grab thing with his little stunt ride to Washington DC to save the world.

I agree. Somedody told him he could be the calavry or a white knight to the rescue. Unfortunately , this isn't a Hollyweird epic with a happy ending. In fact even if a deal is cooked up chances are it will likely seem like $$ down a rathole in a few months and everyone will be wondering why anyone took Paulson, Berneke or any of them seriously.
