Whoopee

Its 1930. America is in the grip of the Depression. The economy is down the tubes.

In this cartoon, there's a great celebration going on, but we don't know why, its just happening almost like its New Years. Felix the Cat is drunk, hallucinating, and dreaming. He drinks anything he can get his hands on, he is a 'complete' drunk. His hallucinations shape shift, his thoughts change from loopy to anxious to aggressive to disoriented. His wife is ready to clobber him with a rolling pin for his thoughtless carousing. The world is filled with animals masquerading as people.

The soundtrack is from an all American parade and the roaring 20s.

The animators are freely roaming with their pens, and there is an uncensored flow of ideas.

Its a cartoon but its hard to imagine that a child would find it entertaining. Instead they would see an uninviting adult world filled with boorish galoots.

In the finale, the cuckoo clock bird is shot because it brings the news that its time to rise, time to begin it all again.
