Tibet

The recent civil disobedience by Tibetans and the response by the Chinese military is the source of great consternation throughout the world. Tibet was invaded by the Chinese in the 50s and since that time, the Chinese have aggressively worked to destroy the cultural integrity of the Tibet. Its a shame and its an outrage.

The US government generally sides with the Tibetans in rhetoric only. This has the appearance of nothing more than lip service with a wink and nod under the table.

A few online sites with petitions are:

Stand with Tibet

Take Action: Tell your Congressional Representative to Support Tibet!

I think one of the most culturally insulting images I have ever seen was in the film - 'Ten Questions for the Dalai Lama.' In the film we see the Potala, the seat of the Dalai Lama in Tibet, in the background. In the foreground we see an amusement park. The Chinese had turned this important center of Tibetan Buddhism into an amusement park.
