Bimbo's Initiation

More Depression Era cartoons - looking to the past for clues about the present. Some might call the present economy similar to that of the early 30's.

This particular cartoon is anxiety laden and surrealistic. Most cartoons are surreal but in this case it is the instantaneous changes in the material qualities of the environment that Bimbo has fallen into that are more unusual.

Hapless Bimbo is in an unknown life threatening fun house initiation that he resists yet it scares him senseless. Its only through his seduction and desire fulfillment that he finds relief. Along the way there's a decapitation, gravity is upended, a growing phallus/sword/shark threatens his behind (sic), there's humiliation, garden variety perversions, and a black faced violent mob, most of which is set to happy go lucky Americana music.
