So everyone walked a fine line. RNC chairman Reince Priebus, perhaps the saddest figure in national politics right now, seems to have capitulated to the near-inevitability of Trump’s nomination.

It's so strange that the two parties are in opposite places in this phase of the election. The candidate the party elite hate on the GOP side is winning an insurgent campaign not based in part on the GOP's hardcore ideology and on the Dem. side the insurgent candidate is losing and the party elite is getting the candidate they want.
I think Trump ran into a wind of unexpected good luck. The huge 17 person field allowed him to wedge his way in with a tiny percentage of support. Trump still doesn't gather more than 50% of the GOP primary vote. Trump ran into a set of circumstances that kept him out front even with 25% of GOP primary support plus the billions in network free coverage because he is such a douche for us to gawk at, got him better positioning and like it or not, got him credibility.
