Divide And Conquer

The Monitor article linked below is trying to calibrate the pulse of the country and how they feel about labor unions. The majority are favorable but that support is eroding. Is it any wonder given the fear people hold regarding the economy and their place as workers within it, and the non stop assault on collective bargaining rights and all things democratic coming from the authoritarian right.

Although the share of respondents taking some form of favorable view (45 percent) was slightly larger than the camp with unfavorable views (42 percent), support for unions has clearly ebbed over the past decade. When Pew asked the same poll question in 1999, the margin was 59 percent "favorable" to 36 percent "unfavorable."
