To Green Or Not To Green In California

Curious dilemma in the potentially progressive state of California.

Governor Jerry Brown (and that still seems very strange to write) is faced with a mangled choice.

He needs to adroitly address that state's budget mess and he needs to move the state towards more green energy. The two i.e. a balanced budget and green energy are not completely compatible when a massive recession is occurring.

I hope he takes the plunge, bites the bullet as it were, and goes along with a proposal to improve the state's percentages of green energy by 2020.

CS Monitor: Jerry Brown's tough choice: green energy in hard economic times
Democrats (in California) are resurrecting an idea vetoed by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that would require utilities to buy at least 33 percent of state electricity from renewable sources by 2020, hoping Mr. Brown will be more amenable. On Thursday, the bill passed in the state Senate.

“Brown clearly supports the green industry effort and wants California to be a leader, but his top priority is the budget problem he has to deal with.”

Because green energy currently costs more to produce.
