Defense of Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz Dropped

Jose Padilla is suing Bush era Pentagon officials for torturing him. One judge has thrown out the case but another is allowing a version of the case to proceed. The Obama administration has dropped the legal representation of all involved except Gates.

I recall reading about Padilla a few years ago and wishing I had not eaten anything just before. Its some scary torture techniques and the guy was reduced to some pre-conscious unrecognizable being.

The long story short version is that somewhere along the line the case gets shut down because important state secrets will not be allowed to come forth, they could somehow threaten the very foundation of our society. This is the usual company line. However from here on out it will be mostly on the Rumsfeld defense fund dime and not our dime.

Politico: Justice drops defense of Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz
...Judge Richard Gergel said allowing the case to proceed could result in “a massive discovery assault on the intelligence agencies of the United States Government….and lengthy and probing depositions of high-ranking government officials with national security clearances and personal knowledge of some of the Nation’s most sensitive information.”

...a federal judge in San Francisco, weighing a separate but parallel suit against former Justice Department lawyer John Yoo ruled that case could go forward.

His lawyers claim that Padilla’s captors in the brig subjected him to abuse including sensory deprivation, prolonged isolation, imminent death threats, forced drugging and interference with his practice of Islam.
