Loneliness During The Holidays

Curious thing is it not. It is the holiday time full of good cheer. Unfortunately many people are going into, or are already in, a period of extreme loneliness and isolation.

We know this. The holidays make a lot of people seriously depressed. Older people remember the husband or wife who died around this time. Somebody thinks about a parent who died around this time of year.

Somehow we need to lessen that sense of loneliness. It is pervasive in our culture. Isolation is a desirable thing from a corporate point of view, from a consumerist culture point of view. The more isolated we are, the more dependent on all of the material objects that temporarily allay loneliness.

We know this. Its all a drag. But somehow we need to reach out a little bit.
