Stroke Belt

I was not aware of a stroke belt. The stroke belt is "an area..that includes the coastal plains of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia."

People in this area run a higher risk of dying from a stroke.

The idea is that people in this region particularly black people, eat too much fried fish. Fish is considered a decent enough food for many reasons but it is the deep frying that may turn it into something that the body can't handle.

...there is evidence that frying fish reduces their amount of omega-3 fatty acids...Frying is also associated with an increase in the food's fat and calorie content.
