No, it's a barely concealed attempt to cut SSI ( by portraying it as a temporary tax cut) and then have to fight the GOP to refund it when we all know they want to privatize ( piratize ) it by handing it over to Wall st. and we all know already up front how well that will work out. Obama is either stupid ( not likely) or he's playing along with his pals in the GOP with this not so clever back door attempt at de-funding it. In either event it's just more proof that he's not what he sold himself to everyone as back in 2008. ( a Democrat).
I am extremely upset by this move from Obama. Its put me over the top with him. This cuts way too close to home.
On top of it all there will be a Tea Party Congress taking over in 2011. The cut to SSI in the payroll tax occurs within the context of an ultra right wing Congress. What in the hell are people thinking? I suspect nobody knows about this because this is the stuff of riots. We are too complacent.
They cleverly made it sound like a tax cut since they're betting most people don't have a clue that the funding basis for SSI has never been tampered with in 75 yr.! This unprecedented assault on the very funding basis of SSI is a GOP idea he's trying to sell us and it's damnable for this guy to even propose such a scheme, unless he's all for it. The dead giveaway that he is all for it was his so called deficit Commission (the infamous Cat Food Commission as it came to be known) which turned out from day 1 to be little more then another planned assault on SSI and Medicare. When this Commission's recommendations went over like a lead balloon last week he pulled out this plan B shot at de-funding SSI instead. I don't like this guy much anymore. The gig is up and he's no longer fooling anyone about what he's really up to. Billy Clinton got away with this shit in the 90's because he got a booming economy after 94'. This klown isn't going to be that lucky. He appears to be getting ready to do one helluva of a lot of damage this next two yrs. giving the GOP everything thing it wants and cutting or privatizing ( piratizing) SSI and Medicare are near the top of their wish list. He has to be stopped.
