Earth 2016 the US and the Russian Federation will now actively attempt to stop any further progress toward an alternative energy future based on renewable / sustainable resources like wind, solar , hydrothermal etc. WHY? Both, States are owned to a large extent by Fossil energy Barons and their political cronies ( AKA as V. PUTIN and DJ TRUMP.) These people now know if they don't stop such development now it will soon take on a life of its own and the result will be a financial disaster for Russia and the Fossil energy Barons of both countries.The Russian leadership believes the warming is a good thing for Russia which in their view is at present mostly a frozen wasteland. As for the American Barons and Trump they want to believe they won't be affected by it if they even believe it's happening. ( Exxon absolutely knows the facts, Its CEO Rex Tillerson has said as much in public.) Their game plan is to crush any research and any scientists that try and oppose their plans. They are already going after the big players in this part of the economy. Watch out Elon Musk , Jeff Bezoes, and others your in the bullseye now. My guess is over the course of the next eight yrs. these two nuclear-armed powers are going to use their economic and their military power to crush the environmental movement worldwide since it above all else threatens it's central role at present.

Unfortunately, this move would definitely be a salvo in the direction you are describing. Would Clinton as president make any difference? With Clinton we'd have the under the table nod in the same direction as Trump's overt nod, but we'd at least have some acknowledgment of a need for alternatives to fossil fuels, same as Obama attempted to thread that needle. Putin is correct, Russia probably has less to lose by global warming at least initially, but Trump will be facing severe weather crisis after crisis. It's going to be hard to ignore a catastrophic flood or catastrophic heat wave or Katrina-like hurricane or fracking induced earthquake.

No, your wrong it's not going to be hard at all. He and his following will just rack up any storm as being just that a storm. Sea rise , they'll just claim it's not happening no matter what the facts are. When Copernicus told the Pope and the Church the SUN was at the center of the Solar system they attacked him and silenced him and they did the same to Galileo and they burned Giordano Bruno for similar claims. The Trumpanzees and their master are going to try and create a separate reality based on whatever they want to be in it. Think The Truman show or Westworld or better yet The Outer Limits. They now control the vertical and the horizontal,
not us. He will smash flat anyone who says otherwise and how far off are camps for those who want to say they only see four fingers when living in TRumplandia requires seeing five! We've begun our descent down the rabbit hole friend and it's going to get a lot stranger up ahead.
