On the surface there certainly seems to be some very odd application of rules in a selective manner.
Keith is not my favorite. He is a little too bombastic for my taste, yet I support his show. He is attempting to mimic the outrageous and unproductive style of any one of a number of Tea Party/GOP loudmouth morons. He does make his point.

Earlier today, MSNBC declared that it would be suspending progressive host Keith Olbermann because he violated NBC’s ethics rules by donating to three Democratic candidates for Congress. As many bloggers have noted, conservative MSNBC host Joe Scarborough has donated to Republican candidates for Congress while promoting the same candidate on air, but has never been disciplined. Moreover, Gawker notes that MSNBC has been exempt from the formal NBC ethics rules for years. It is still a mystery why MSNBC selectively applied NBC’s ethics rules to Olbermann. However, it important to realize that MSNBC has undergone a fundamental change in leadership in the last two months.

Keith was from what I've heard very arrogant and made a lot of enemies at the network. He basically handed his enemies there the hammer to hit him with.
Good to get the inside scoop. It sounded like something like that.
Keith has had his 15 mins. of fame. It's one thing to be a cheerleader for the Oligarchs like the FOX news gang and Limbauh and the ret of them because your basically being a brown noser for the elite so they will promote and support you but Keith was a gadfly that they only tolerated and hated. He should have realize like that this puts him in a difficult and dangerous place. Another good example of this kind of arrogence was Eliot Spitzer. These people are watched everything they do is studied by the elite and their staffs and especially by the secret Gov't the NSA CIA etc. You make a mistake and your as is immediately in a sling. You'd have thought all of these people would have learned that after the Reich wing tried to Impeach Clinton for what was essentially j-walking in DC. Remember , when all those GOP Congress critters Senators , Congressmen etc. got caught being patrons to that DC Madame a few yrs. ago? Did any of them get fired or Impeached? Did Limbaugh go to jail for essentially buying and using illegal drugs? Did O'Reilly quit after the loofa affair ? No, why? because a huge double standard always exists for the Conserv. Aristocracy and the rest of us.
