Selective Eating Disorder

Our society could stand a strong dose of overall sensitivity. The thing that is distressing to me about this newly designated disorder are the social consequences. People shun company because they are afraid of not fitting in correctly in this case because they can't tolerate food variety. They don't want the wrong kind of attention. They are embarrassed.

Most people with this disorder are highly embarrassed by their limited food repertoire and will go to great lengths to keep it hidden, either by avoiding social events that involve food or drinks (which ones don't?), or by making up excuses to avoid eating, such as fibbing about an upset belly.
