"Hysterical Campaign Of Misinformation By A Vocal Minority Of Bigots"

A good portion of American politics runs on a tank full of fear. Without fear, we wouldn't have an endless stream of distractions. These distractions take our attention and energy away from the real problems facing the vast majority of people. The country's middle class is dissolving, the job market is going backwards, the world economy is having convulsions, health care remains an American travesty, we are up to our ears in wars, inner cities continue to erode on a basic human level, and on and on. Yet the focus of our attention revolves around fear surrounding a religion and a good portion of people responsible for some of the aforementioned problems are shielding themselves with this new ramped up Islamo-phobia. In short another disgrace is lodged in the American psyche.

CS Monitor: Muslims tread carefully around proposed mosque near ground zero
Acts of vandalism – which law enforcement officials are investigating as hate crimes – have been directed at mosques in Madera, Calif., Murfreesboro, Tenn., and other places around the country. Remnants of a pipe bomb were found at a mosque in Jacksonville, Fla. Playground equipment was burned and vulgar graffiti found at the Dar El-Eman Islamic Education Center, in South Arlington, Tex.

“The stepped-up rhetorical and physical attacks on the American Muslim community and Islam require a positive, proactive response that will help counter the almost hysterical campaign of misinformation by a vocal minority of bigots..."

People are angry and depressed. Millions are out of work and fearful. The right is playing on these fears to ramp up it's holy war against whomever. When times like this happen some elements of society look for scapegoats. The Muslims fit this need. Demagogues arise in such times so we see BECK , LIMBAUGH and a legion of other smaller devils marching & strutting this hatred all over to increasingly crazed crowds of mindless hate filled zombies. America is slowly disintegrating into a badly directed scene from "Night of the Living Dead."

I agree, you have an excellent summation and it follows the trend from point to point.

It is embarrassing to witness this from a personal point of view. People have the potential to be so much better. This is very sad.
