The Market On Tuesday

Good morning. I was out taking a constitutional walk earlier with a sweater and a jacket on. All that clothing and Summer is not even officially over. Its getting chilly. I smelled a few fireplaces actively cranking out the smoke. People want heat.

At 8:00 a.m. futures are relatively flat, oil is slightly down per barrel, and the dollar is mixed against world currencies.

Investors are awaiting the word from the Fed today. It is a highly anticipated announcement. One suspects that good news will boost markets and vice versa. Its that simple. One might also suspect that the Fed wants to make the most advantageous decision from the point of view of Wall Street.

Investors are gearing up for the Fed's announcement on interest rates, due at 2:15 p.m. ET.


The Fed is widely expected to leave rates unchanged.


Reports on August housing starts and building permits are due out at 8:30 a.m. ET.
