The governor of New Hampshire could appoint a Democratic senator as a replacement for Gregg. As a result we know that this will give Democrats a 60 Senator blockade provided Al Franken prevails.
OK, here is my simple opinion. If Gregg gets the new position, the governor of New Hampshire should appoint a Republican replacement. Its very simple, the will of the people needs to prevail. The people of New Hampshire wanted a Republican, so they should continue to get one. This is more important than creating an Obama slam dunk.

Why would Senator Judd Gregg WANT TO GET MIXED UP IN SOMETHING LIKE THIS? Obama’s days in the White House are numbered:
The Joint Chiefs of Staff HAVE AN ABSOLUTE CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY to stand behind Guantanamo Military Judge James Pohl UNTIL OBAMA OVERCOMES “RES IPSA LOQUITUR” BY SUPPLYING HIS LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND PROVING HIS ELIGIBILITY TO BE PRESIDENT UNDER ARTICLE 2 OF THE US CONSTITUTION.
Ted, barring an unexpected tragedy, Obama will be president for the next four years. Gregg by his own volition has expressed interest in the job.
As for Gregg, he may be interested in the post in part because his 2010 reelection is not assured in a state that has trended Democratic in recent years. A coalition of Democratic groups has targeted Gregg (and four other Republicans) this week with advertisements pressuring him to support the president's stimulus package.
"Those groups don’t impress me," Gregg said in an interview with The New York Times. "I’m trying to participate constructively, help the new president where I can be helpful and be part of the loyal opposition where I disagree with him."
On the flip side, he may also face fire from conservatives in his state for his support of the financial bailout in the fall. He was the GOP's chief negotiator. source
