Rescue

OMG!! I absolutely love the wording of this article.

OPEC is going to "rescue" oil prices. That's right - rescue.

Who are they going to rescue oil prices from - you, yes you, you ungrateful ingrate.

Yes indeed, the poor folks in OPEC see the revenues tailing off by what - oh maybe a few percentage points, so horror of horrors, time to make demand outweigh supply. Its got to hurt when the dollar bill spigot stops pouring out millions each hour and starts giving you chump change instead. They are scaling back on the solid gold toilets and have settled for gold plated, poor babies.

The tap stops here. Check back as soon as gas tops $4 per gallon - and see you real soon.

Reuters: OPEC makes deepest oil cut ever to rescue prices
OPEC oil ministers agreed their deepest output cut ever on Wednesday, slashing 2.2 million barrels per day from oil markets in a race to balance supply with rapidly crumbling demand for fuel.

Oil stocks rose today incidentally.

Eventually oil will run out, we know this. in the meantime, the world is held hostage to the oil producers. The smart people want out of this arrangement, and they have a way out. Its just that its costly.

The problem as I see it is really scale. As long as the technology is only available too the wealthy and institutions then the change will not happen @ the level it needs too happen to have any real impact. A few wealthy people driving hybrids with solar houses is cute but makes little impact. We need mandates on Industry first. The auto companies need to be confronted about their plans and most particularly their priorities. Like the bankers they cannot be left too themselves. The invisible hand will only jerk us all off for a few more dollars and care nothing about the hidden costs. A lot of the problem is what has become known as the "tragedy of the commons." The earth is the commons and everyone's actions effect it and each of us. A growing awareness of this inter connectivity comes with a moral and ethical prerogative for some. The problem is many conservatives don't buy any idea of community or community responsibilities. They believe if they act in their own interest this will somehow just translate into good acts somehow. I think we know this is really nothing more then what's called in psychology self justification behavior. Greed is just greed it's not good.

Well said.

One problem is that it seems very hard to change people's minds. We can talk about the right till we are blue in the face. People tend to guard their mental territory and when its threatened they get aggressive. Then the whole things changes to a game of mental one-ups-manship. I'm thinking of Limbaugh and Hannity who turn it into a game of I tagged you last.

Calamity tends to bring people together especially if its a common enemy. In spite of the common economic depression, we are not seeing much of it with the right attempting to discredit Obama because of governor-gate even though some are saying don't go there.

It seems like the only way to proceed is in a fractured state. Part of the community pushes forward, part goes the other way like a Chinese finger torture. I believe we have to turn our attention away from the right and focus on renewable energy, greener technology, breaking down barriers, fostering the higher ground. It sounds like so much rhetoric, but either we do it or not. Eventually the time will come for changes or else there's more decline in society in general and we survive by trying to find our little pockets of freedom. Its easy to do when your loaded.

My guess is the right will attempt too fight a rear guard action. Look at how they are trying too make a Mt. out of a molehill with the Govgate thing. The MSM goes right along spending endless hrs. waiting for any scap of info that might hurt Obama, anything! They spent 8 yrs. looking the other way with BV$H and his gang but now investigative reporting is back with a vengence isn't it? Fucker, I hate them all. The MSM is just so must paid for whores doing the bidding of the big Corp. elite ( all GOP). They will fihg tevery attempt to cahnge the most insignificant thing. The Demos. now have all the high ground and still grovel. It's disgusting I think I hate them more.
