I completely disagree with the premise of William's argument that NPR should compete as a "product." NPR should not have to compete, it should be supported as an independent news facility.
Effective independent oversight and insulation from government is necessary, but NPR should not have to compete in an entertainment venue.
I would agree Ed. Juan is pandering to the FOX News base with his comments. Curious that he wants acceptance in the jaws of the right. To each his own...

Juan got rich the last few yrs. as the house "librul" on Fox. It seems just being around that place pickles ones brains.

I suspect this was an ongoing discussion at NPR - how to dump Juan.
They got a window with his Bill O suck up statement and ran with it.
Now he's pissed, he had to have seen it coming. So he's practiced his lines for how to turn NPR into another welfare baby. What a douche.
