We Speak English Here

All righty then...

Don't know how I feel about this.
If I were to move to France, I would expect to take the drivers test in French.

Ed, an exam in different languages that follows the same format and has the same answer sheet that can be checked by a computer can't really cost that much more. I don't buy it. This is a lightly veiled racist comment. Of course its just my opinion. You don't really need to speak English to follow traffic signs and red lights.

I can see the racism, and you're right of course.

But is the language up for grabs? Is this an English speaking country? or is that just a wrong assumption on my part?

Seems to me if people move here, they should learn English.

I suspect the dominant language is still English not only here but worldwide. The Chinese have these amusing t-shirts and adverts in mangled English but they are trying.

The thing about languages and aliens coming in and changing stuff goes way back. My grandparents came here from Italy around 1900. They moved to Italian neighborhoods and primarily spoke Italian. When I was growing up, many of my family's acquaintances spoke Italian. Mostly all of these people, at least the men. fought in WWII. Nobody complained about them taking over America and turning it into another country.
