Reviewing The Cold War Arms Race

Check it out - David Hoffman has written a book 'The Dead Hand: The Untold Story of the Cold War Arms Race and Its Dangerous Legacy' which reveals a far different tale of the arms race than what we were told or what we assumed.

Are there any other instances in American history where outlandish exaggeration was used to boost a military effort.

Maybe?

GWU edu: Breaking Down Soviet Military Secrecy

We came with mins. of total War a few times during the Cold War because of technological errors! In other words the friggin computers and radars almost did us in not anyone's poor decisions. Lucky for us REAL people had to make those calls and reason and good judgment prevailed over the stupid ass machines. The problem is that the same systems are still on a hair trigger alert and most people think we've taken them down and we haven't!! The Cold War is still on whether the public knows it or not!!

What a waste of human effort and resources, let alone all the fear and potential destruction it all brings. I think its a tribute to stupidity.
