We seem to react to bad news in a curious way. Take the war in Afghanistan, at first we were riveted. We wanted to see them take Kandahar, remember that. Now the war barely breaks into the front page if at all. It did this last weekend only when Michael Steele decided to go all liberal. Meanwhile the war is playing out, it really is. Its war.
The Gulf is now receding in our collective concern quotient. It just goes on and on, keeps leaking away, keeps wrecking the water and coastal communities, keeps spreading, killing the wildlife. We realize we can't do anything, right We stay informed, get angry, that's good. We share specific information. There's a huge skimmer over there now, great.
Maybe I'm frustrated.
McClatchy: Defying warnings, swimmers still take to oiled Gulf waters
Pregnant women and young children were urged to avoid the beach, and the public was advised against swimming in general. But in comments to reporters, the agency's local director, Dr. John Lanza, said he would ``of course'' swim in the Gulf as long as oil wasn't obviously present in the water or the beaches.
Lanza said his office was waiting for the federal Environmental Protection Agency to release toxicology results that will determine whether the Gulf waters pose a health risk. While the Florida Health Department tests for dangerous bacteria -- including from human waste -- it's relying on the EPA to pass judgement on the risks posed by oil in the water. The EPA did not respond to requests for comment Friday, and Lanza said he doesn't know when the federal agency will release the test results.

Maybe, Lisa Jackson ( the present EPA Sect. ) could do a Christie Whitman and tell everyone it's safe to swim in the GULF even after her own scientists declare it unsafe? Christie did this after 9/11 telling everyone NYC's air was safe when it's decidedly wasn't right after the attack.
We are actually at that point. The governor of Mississippi is telling people no problemo. Meanwhile the leak is flowing and minute to minute it gets worse. Would you swim in water that has clots of oil in it? I think it should be obvious. I know about the 9-11 air, and that was despicable. They new they were lying. They call it collateral damage right. The people that can absorb the suffering so the government can put on a happy face.
Yea, their Happy Face and our damage. What a bunch of self serving retards they are. I find myself using the word despise more and more as time goes forward to describe how I feel for these people. Hate is too strong word and a feeling for how I feel for them and dislike to weak. DESPISE though fits how I feel to a T!
