I love this. Is it feasible that we are alone in the universe as semi-conscious human beings? Maybe some other planet has fully conscious beings. What if they're worse than us?
Hey, explain to me again what lies beyond the universe...
Daily Mail: Prospect of life in deep space as Nasa probe finds hundreds of new planets
Up to 140 of the newly-found planets are rocky and Earth-like containing both land and water, conditions which could allow simple lifeforms to develop.

The fact that we haven't yet detected any life off this planet is kind of mysterious in a way. As for contact with any other intelligent life, I think on that score were probably lucky @ this stage of our development we haven't had any. Or at least any we know about and can prove.
One thing that has always puzzled me about the search for ET is this. If it took so many years for human beings to get to our present state of evolution etc, wouldn't it make sense to check out other systems that are the same age as this system. Granted we lost 1,000 years of technical development because of the Dark Ages post AD but not everything would be linear. If ET is on another planet they would also have to evolve from single cells, go through technical developments etc. Why would some other being have a jump on us unless the system was much older in the universe. If ET is on a planet that been around for thousands and thousands of years more than this planet has been around they maybe they would be techno freaks - light travel all that kind of stuff. They would also already know about us too.
I have theory about why we've detected nothing especially intelligence out there. I think were in some kind of field that were being shield and filtered from the traffic out there. I think it's busy as hell out htere but just like filtered network traffic this filter is not allowing us to see anything. Here's why I believe something like this happening. The TOTAL absence of anything, think about that what are the odds? It doesn't make any sense. The other possibility is this is all a program running in a holo type chamber like in Star trek. We don't really exist. Or, maybe it's one Universe per intelligence? It doesn't make any sense. something about the Universe is radically different then we think.
According to the Buddhist tradition, we don't really exist, at least not like the way we think we exist. They say what we see is merely a projection of our mental state. You and I see similar things because we have similar tendencies. Don't want to be preachy but I find it interesting. Science tells us that the vast majority of what we do see is empty of matter. A table, a chair, is primarily nothing, the molecules orbit around a vastly greater amount of nothing. Its really the only game in town right. Every generation has its conceit in that they believe they know the reason and such or are right on the edge of discovery.
Stephen Hawking says it may be that collisions are keeping the et population down.
We are unique in that we have giant planets in our solar sys that absorb passing space junk.
Ed, lots of Solar systems have Gas giants dude. Were not that unique. I respect Steven but I doubt collisions are that big a factor for advanced ET's.
