Kagan Passes Hurdle One

Obama nominee Elena Kagan's approval by a Senate committee was the first major hurdle on the way to becoming a Supreme Court judge.

CS Monitor: Senate committee approves Elena Kagan: how the senators voted
The committee vote was 13 to 6, with all but one Republican committee member voting against her.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) of South Carolina was the only senator to cross the aisle to support Ms. Kagan.
Kagan must still be approved by the Senate.
If she is confirmed by the Senate as expected early in August, the nine-member court will have four Democratic appointees for the first time since 1971. source
