Afghanistan is resource rich and is a gateway to central Asian oil and other natural resources. They are not going to let it fall out of their aka corporate hands.
Seems that way. But, I wouldn't sell the Afghans short in the war dept. As much as I deplore the Taliban if the Aghans perceive them as the only Nat'l force fighting the foreigners ( US) they'll win eventually. Sad for the Aghans, but how it's been for a very long time.
