Clunker On

The cash for clunkers program may triple in size. The original billion dollar funding evaporated fast and initially we read that the government would suspend the program.

Well its back.

One point - the 1% GDP shrinkage that we read about on Friday is in part caused by government spending. The GDP won't go anywhere if its all about government spending to boost activity.

McClatchy: 'Cash for clunkers' program headed for big expansion
Congress and the Obama administration scrambled Friday to triple the size of the overwhelmingly popular "cash for clunkers" program...

The Gopers HATE anything that isn't spent on the BIG CORPS of WAR and OIL. They're all about balancing budgets when they no longer get to say who gets to spend what.

Are you saying that the GOP is behind the clunkers money? Because that $4500 is going to auto dealers and probably auto makers, though I am not positive of that. Part of the idea is to move the over stocked inventory on the lots. The inventory moves, and big auto starts cranking. Big auto shows profits and the recession is "over." Its another government funding of big auto and you and I pay the price of a new car, we probably should get anyhow.

No, I don't think they're behind it. They do not want the high gas consuming clunkers removed from the hiways and that's exactly one of the goals of this program. I have a few clunkers I'd LOVE to be rid of but I'm in no position right now to take advantage of this program.
