Our society is @ some levels a War of "all against all". It's the core nature of Capitalism. As poverty deepens the wretched turn on their own.

Amen to that. When I was assaulted back in 2007, the first thing I realized was that there is a war going on right in the community.

When the business people in my neighborhood turned on me because I was being vocal about the assault and because they were afraid of losing business, I packed up and head for the hills never to do business there either.

So its a multi-fronted war with drugs, money, and violence of all types and styles at its center.

I don't have a clue about how to stop it. These gang kids are crazed, the business people are equally as crazed but in a different direction. The end result is the same - violence.

You have to protect yourself, and simultaneously you need to be open to the possibility that kindness can arise.

The drugs keep the wretched wretched and @ war since it's their only way to live. The police, courts , legal, lawyers, Gov't programs etc all feed off the Drug war and without it they wouldn't in many cases have a job. Think of how much of our resources are used for defense and offense against each other, what a waste. The right wing has been driven mad by it all and see violence as the only solution in many cases. Since they have little faith in democracy it follows that guns are their answer to everything. This is why they are so nutz over the 2nd A. and think showing off their guns makes them safe for some reason?

Excellent point and on the money. America works best when we have a defined enemy. Terrorists, poor people, that's good enough.

Some people call it the military industrial prison complex. Prisons were a big growth industry, not sure if state budgets allow for it as much now, but as the recession eases it will pick up. Interesting culture isn't it.

The prison system is really the American gulag isn't it? If you look at who gets locked up and for what it's obvious that America's NO. 1 priority is fighting the War on Drugs and has been for decades. The other priority is finding someone outside the country to drop bombs and missiles on. The flimsiest of excuses will suffice for the 2nd goal. We are like I said a society @ war with ourselves and everyone else. In England last yr. something like 200 people died from guns. In the US it's more like 25K!
