If my memory is correct, this is from the late 80's. This particular piece was pivotal for lots of classical musicians. Its was one of the very first of its kind. Since then, many have gone on to do all kinds of unusual musics from the conservatory.

Truth is I had a friend who was a composer back in the mid-70's who was doing something like this. There also was a German composer back in the late 40's who experimented with atonal classical composition. Imagine how that went over then! Not well. The average person over 17 hears this kind of stuff as noise.
