This is ultimately where Conservative social and economic policy is leading and always leads. The Conservative view is simple US vs. "them". The "them" part varies throughout the ages, but is almost always rooted in class. The poor are seen increasingly as bad , evil the enemy of righteousness and the rest of society must be defended against them. The rich thieves in contrast are rewarded for massive deception and theft ( Wall st. Fossil Energy Barons, Big Pharma , Big Military etc et al.) The poor are LOSERS in this world-view flawed and even "fallen" to use the religious ideology of many. They are to be shunned , ghettoized and kept quiet and docile by force if necessary. In ROMAN times these people were slaves today they are essentially slaves as well. Like the serfs of old Russia increasingly they find themselves being deprived of their human rights herded about and stigmatized. If we don't turn this around soon we will find ourselves a 2 class society of a few UBER RICH MASTERS and a vast mass of desperately poor SERVANTS / SLAVES.

You comment is very interesting because this morning I was thinking about the results of a Tea Party President in 2016 to go with a Tea Party Congress and Senate. All that you describe occurs except with even more intensity. There will be a lot of flag waving, a new war or two, and severe reduction in assets to already disenfranchised areas in the country. Drive a stake through the middle class and to add insult to injury the media beats the drum, just as it always does.
