At 8:50 a.m. ET futures are modestly higher and the price of oil per barrel is up. The market is poised to open higher.
Where are we. We have a holiday weekend coming and often times investors leave on a positive note. Then we have Russian troops in the Ukraine and of course this is a mess with global economic implications beyond the human toll. And we have a remarkable run in the indexes through the month of August. Total it all up and I'm going with Russia Ukraine is a big problem dragging on the market, yet there is strong economic US news to potentially balance it out. Either way, the indexes remain extremely fluffy for the time being.

The major U.S. indexes have climbed up by roughly 3% to 4% over the course of the month, with the S&P 500 hitting record-high levels.
