As if there weren't enough problems in the Gulf.
What can we say, man's modern industrial activity is having a merciless effect on the environment. This year's dead zone is the largest recorded.
CS Monitor: Massive 'dead zone' in the Gulf -- but not because of the oil spill
...stretches from off of Galveston, Tex., east to the Mississippi's "bird's foot" delta.
The dead zone forms each spring and summer as snowmelt and rainfall in the Mississippi River's vast drainage basin leach nutrients from farm fields and to a lesser extent from urban landscapes along the river and its tributaries.
Bacteria decompose the organic material, sapping the water's oxygen in the process.

The end product of Conservative thinking. A huge and growing zone of Death. Whose surprised? It's called "The Tragedy of the Commons!"
Its interesting that this has gotten practically no attention compared to the spill. Yet the environmental damage is enormous. Figure two major environmental disasters going on in the gulf, what else is going on that isn't even talked about. Hey, got some garbage, just dump it in the ocean.
I repeat this is the price we pay for Corporatism, AKA Crony Capitalism. They've captured the agencies of Gov't , the Pols, and the Courts and the result is a ever widening circle of death and decay. Their excuse is always the same. Americans won't pay the price for a really clean environment among others. The real reason is ignorance and greed. The mantras of the Goper party and it's blue dog DINOcrat pals.
