The Mosque

I was looking at photos of people protesting the proposed 'Ground Zero Mosque.'

One sign said something like - "We will build a mosque near ground zero when we can build a Jewish synagogue near Mecca."

The problem with this reasoning is that this is America, not Saudi Arabia. Our standards of democracy are not based on the absence of democratic standards in Saudi Arabia. America is the shining example not the dark shadow. We lead.

I have completely firmed my opinion that if the builders want this community center in its proposed location, then they can have it. Ultimately if we limit this from happening, we take another step backwards with our collective freedoms.

CS Monitor: 'Ground Zero mosque' debate hits the streets of New York
...which is not a “mosque” as most people might envision it with a dome, minarets, and amplified calls to prayer but more like a YMCA or Jewish Community Center...

...we have to worry about the extremists as well, because they are seizing this moment.

"The people who say the mosque is too close to Ground Zero, those are the same people that protest mosques in Brooklyn and Staten Island and Tennessee and Wisconsin and California..."

I know some of these twisted in the head Mad hatters teaparty types. They have it backasswards. They're heads are filled with hateful shit and they are looking for scapegoats. The see what the rest of us see but they listen to Beck and Limbaugh and the rest of the REich wing noise machine for their marching orders. Scary and dangerous. These people are being set against the rest of us in a very BIG way. Nothing good can come of this.
