White House - End Of Economic Free-Fall

I guess there are two ways of looking at this.

The White House is saying that within the next few months, the economy will end its free-fall.

We can look at this simply as a positive statement which gives hope to the notion that the recession is more than half way done, perhaps. Also it indicates that a "bottom" is within sight.

Unfortunately a free-fall without a parachute ends with someone hitting the ground, and that is pretty hard to get up and walk away from.

The Hill: Administration sees an end to economic 'free-fall'
"The sense of a ball falling off a table, which is what the economy felt like since the middle of last fall, I think we can be reasonably confident that that's going to end in the next few months, and that you'll no longer have that sense of free-fall," Lawrence Summers said Thursday at that Economic Club of Washington.
