The carrot is still being offered by economists and officials claiming that the recession will subside later this year. So we have gotten comfortable with this date, "later this year."

Their all full of shit. Economists are mostly paid for hacks. This isn't going to end for yrs. The BV$H yrs. were largely a jobless so called recovery from 2000's debacle and the 2001 mini-recession. Many of the people being laid off will never work again. People like me who are over 60 can forget it job wise. I'm looking to create a new small business. ( or starve, either or)
Small businesses are cool as you know, and you have extensive experience with one. This is the way to go. I think as Bush recedes in our memory, he's going to look worse and worse. He was the president that impeachment was made for.
To be honest I think all of the recent one's the new guy included are wholly owned by Wall st., Defense, Oil take your pick. Whores the bunch. We need to somehow completely remove private financing for these offices or we'll end up with what we have now forever. Neither congress nor the Executive reflect popular will much anymore.
I think you have a valid point. The notion of questioning authority or going further and questioning the assumed structures that govern our lives is missing in general.
