The Market On Friday

Futures are down as the unemployment reports surface at 8:30AM. You will notice that investors are interested in selling and profiting from the recent rally.

So where is the uptick rule? It is not back yet. Firms are lobbying to keep it off the books.

WSJ: Direct Edge Argues Against Bringing Back Short-Selling Rule
Electronic equities platform Direct Edge urged financial regulators to maintain and strengthen current short-selling rules, following calls from U.S. stock exchanges to reinstate limits on the practice.

A reinstatement of the uptick rule is intended to answer the concerns of listed companies that worry that short-sellers could drive down their shares.
Right now, it would appear that a roller coaster market performance is almost a guarantee.

...investors were poised to book a portion of their recent hefty gains ahead of key U.S. monthly jobs data.
