I could be wrong, but this represents the first insider establishment endorsement for Trump, that would be an endorsement from a sitting governor, senator, or congressperson. Christie should be run out of town on a rail for this one. (Update) I am wrong, earlier this week Trump got two endorsements from sitting congresspersons.

I'm not surprised at this. Trump is just a tall rich version of Christie. Both are ego maniacs and demagogues with deeply authoritarian tendencies.
This was an orchestrated event, a trump card so to speak, thrown out into the world when needed. Trump needed it yesterday because it completely foiled Rubio bashing of Trump Thursday night where Trump came up blubbering. So rather that marinate in that pickle more than a few hours, Trump threw out his trump card with Christie. Voila, now the news is not about what a blathering idiot Trump is, but about an endorsement. Christie gets something out of this, but his political future is shot to hell.
I take it back, Christie gets paid with a new position. In a Trump administration Christie becomes the new S.O.A. Secretary of Asshole...
