Yes, the Merrimack of course there were hundreds of similar ships built during the Civil War. Or, if your from the South The War of Northern Aggression as its called. We needed a de-Nazification of the south after that war, We beat those folks badly and let them go home with their weapons to stew over it for 150 yrs. Now the country is brewing up another nasty conflict with the great great grands of these people.
I'm not sure if the rhetoric coming from the hate groups in the south is the same as it's always been or it's getting ramped up because the media drives it up. I would suspect that in that first ten years after the conclusion of the Civil War that Southerners were so furious that it was way beyond what we hear about now. They were probably raging in hatred all day long 24/7. Yet, there is clearly a strong population out there that wants more conflict of some type or secession, and as I've said many times before I do support secession - let 'em go.
