I bookmarked that one. Existential terror is bound to drive people toward faith in God. Anything to cover the void.

I think the demise of modernism has made things worse, too. A secular utopian faith that served us well for a century, it's no longer salving those anxieties. So fundamentalism is on the rise.

Opium of the people, sure. Delusions are easier than reality. It's getting harder to find someone who isn't a junkie.

Ionesco's Rhinoceros comes to mind.

Ed, no sarcasm here. I'm serious. Check out Joe Bageant, the guy was avery special writer and thinker.
