In his time this kind of work was still very controversial and many considered it little more then pornography. A generation later though it was high art and today such a work like (Modigliani's Reclining nude sold) for $171 mil. at auction. Times sure have changed.
It's interesting how he has in many ways reduced the nude to a more of an abstraction. She's there, she's nude, but her form and colors reflect more about how she integrates with the interior room. For me it's possibly the opposite of eroticism, it's a case where the feminine is reduced to basically another object in the house. She still has beauty but it's so stylized.
